Psychotherapy & Counseling

Psychotherapy and Counseling can be effective and powerful sources of help - moving you toward the peace, joy and hope that you may have lost somewhere along the way.

What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Counseling?

Counseling tends to look at the present circumstances that people are facing and decisions that need to be made about those circumstances. Counseling helps clients clarify issues, assists them in making difficult decisions, and empowers them to more forward with those decisions in a more confident and healthier manner.

Psychotherapy tends to look at the past experiences of people's lives and aims to help them resolve their past. Resolution can take many forms but often involves integrating and breaking free from the past so that it no longer controls, infects, or thwarts them in their present lives.

Is Psychotherapy or Counseling right for me?

None of us are exempt or immune from painful experiences in life. And while we may valiantly try to "push through" we may also discover that the pain is crushing us. Perhaps you have found yourself battling painful emotions and don't know what to do. Or maybe you are finding yourself becoming trapped in unhealthy behaviors or ways of coping. In those moments you may have realized that you needed help, but the sense of shame, failure, or frustration prevented you from actually reaching out for that help.

Facing the reality that life isn't working - and seeking help - may be one of the most courageous things you will ever do.

But... Where do you go? Who can you trust?

Often, what is needed is someone who actually understands you - without passing judgment... someone skilled, nonjudgmental, and compassionate enough to help you navigate through the pain, recover your heart, or heal from past hurts.

Relationships can be restored. Fears can be faced and overcome. Painful pasts don't have to continue plaguing you forever. Life can be better than it's been.
